With baseball fans from every corner of the state descending on Downtown for the very first Twins game on April 2 against the St. Louis Cardinals, more than a few are probably going to pop into Block E beforehand.  So the Downtown entertainment complex wants to roll out the welcome mat.

From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Fri, April 2, Block E will host a welcome party for Twins fans in its skyway atrium. The “Block E Baseball Celebration,” according to Block E general manager Kris Brandt, will be an afternoon of kids games, balloons, music, face painting, special treats, food and discounts. Major tenants GameWorks, the Hard Rock Café, the Shout House, Applebees and the new Kieran’s Irish Pub will all offer special discounts, as well as coupons promising deals to returning customers.

Melania Campo, spokeswoman for Hard Rock Café, said that the music themed restaurant would partner with GameWorks to offer free video gaming in the skyway, where visitors can take a crack at Rockband and the new Playstation  3 game, MLB 10 The Show, which features Joe Mauer on the cover. Brittany Garcia, who handles promotions for GameWorks, said that the interactive gaming venue would provide hot dogs and other snacks, and that Sonic the Hedgehog might even make an appearance.

Keiran’s Irish Pub will offer face painting for kids. They’ll also host WCCO’s pre-game broadcast from the bar — the first installment of the season-long “Home Field Fridays,” in which Michelle Tafoya previews a Twins game from inside Keiran’s.

Cold Stone Creamery plans to sell one-dollar ice cream cones for kids. Mrs. Fields will also participate with cookie discounts.
