The U.S. Pond Hockey Championships will be held this Saturday, Jan. 30 on Lake Nokomis.
The fifth annual event is the nation's largest oudoor pond hockey tournament. The games were originally scheduled for Jan. 24 but rainy weather forced organizers to cancel.
"This will be bare bones play: No huge tent, music, food, beverage, and definitely no rain," said Fred Haberman, founder of the event. "Just old school pond hockey on a lake in single temps under the blue Minneapolis sky."
Most games will start around 8 a.m. The Golden Shovel will be awarded to winning teams in each division by 2:30 p.m.
