Users of Hennepin Avenue’s bike lanes are organizing a funeral procession tonight for the paths, before they’re gone for good.

Minneapolis Public Works is seal coating the roadways and creating temporary pavement lines until October, signaling the end of the lanes. A funeral service beginning at Gateway Park and traveling down Hennepin Avenue from 6-8 p.m. will commemorate the paths.

People are encouraged to bring a story about the bike lanes as well as a headlight to wear during the procession. It will end at Mackenzie’s with a happy, sad or indifferent hour.
