The Walker Art Center opens an outdoor summer concert series of performances in and around one of its most intriguing outdoor sculptures June 4.
Local rockers Aviette open the “Skyspace/Soundspace” series of concerts with an 8:30 p.m. performance in the green space near “Sky Pesher 2005,” a bunker-like space designed by artist James Turrell. Viewers who enter the sculpture look up through rectangular opening in the sculpture’s ceiling to see a section of sky framed like a painting.
The series continues on occasional Thursdays throughout the summer, with some groups even scheduled to perform inside “Sky Pesher 2005.” The series continues June 18 with a performance by circuit-bending duo Beatrix*JAR.

Turrell’s sculpture also was the site of a wedding over Memorial Day weekend. Walker employee Justin Heideman wrote about his big day on the Walker’s blog (blogs.walkerart.org).
