Xcel Energy to recognize company’s efforts

Xcel Energy announced plans to honor Aveda for the beauty company’s pioneering use of wind power in a ceremony 11 a.m. Wednesday in the lobby of 414 Nicollet Mall.

The Environmental Energy Partner Award recognizes Aveda’s participation in Xcel Energy’s Windsource program. Electricity consumed at Aveda’s manufacturing facility in Blaine and its Aveda Institute on the East Bank is entirely offset by purchases of wind energy through the program, Xcel Energy reported.

Aveda is one of the largest customers of Windsource, Xcel Energy reported. Its purchase of renewable energy offsets conserved more than 1 million kilowatt hours of electricity and earned Aveda $140,000 in conservation rebates from Xcel.
