Minneapolis Police alerted Downtown residents to an increase in thefts reported from condominium garages.
Thefts from condo garages in the North Loop, Downtown West and Downtown East neighborhoods were on an upward trend at the end of last year, police reported. Typically, thieves broke into cars or stole bicycles parked in the garages.
No suspects had been identified in any of the thefts, police said.
In an email, police reminded residents that even supposedly secure buildings are vulnerable to theft. The email noted that condominium security cameras have, in some cases, been “poorly positioned, out of focus or disabled” and infrequently monitored, limiting their use in identifying suspects.
Downtown residents were reminded not to allow anyone they don’t know into their buildings, including any underground or attached garage space.
