A new tool for understanding streams and rivers opened last week at the University of Minnesota’s St. Anthony Falls Laboratory.

The Outdoor StreamLab, or OSL, was designed to simulate a variety of stream and river conditions for researchers studying river habitats, flood control and river restoration. Located on HennepinIsland in the Mississippi River near the Stone Arch Bridge, the OSL officially opened Sept. 19 but had been operating since June.
