More than 1,000 block parties planned in Minneapolis
Tens of thousands of Minneapolis residents were expected to attend block parties and community gatherings for the 25th Annual National Night Out Tuesday night.
The annual event brings community members together as a way to raise awareness of local crime-prevention efforts and strengthen community relationships with local law enforcement. Minneapolis set an all-time record for participation in 2007, when an estimated 62,891 people attended 1,117 National Night Out events, the city reported.
Sponsored since 1984 by the National Association of Town Watch, National Night Out was celebrated in all 50 states last year, involving an estimated 35.4 million people in more than 11,000 communities, the organization reported.
