A street near the south end of the Interstate 35W bridge construction site will close today for up to five weeks while crews relocate utilities and widen highway lanes, the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) reported.

The intersection of 14th Avenue South and 1st Street South was set to begin today, weather permitting. Access to the Seven Corners Apartments parking ramp will be maintained during construction, MnDOT reported.

The department also planned to restrict parking on 14th Avenue South and 2nd Street South during construction to allow room for two-way traffic.

A bike lane on the 10th Avenue Bridge will also close for an hour each Saturday, due to the increasingly popularity of the weekly sidewalk superintendent talks, MnDOT said. The talks, open to the public, are a way for MnDOT to update the public on bridge construction.

The bike lane on the west side of the 10th Avenue Bridge will close 11 a.m. to noon Saturdays to accommodate the crowds.
