Expect extra hammering noises from the Interstate 35W bridge construction site as crews build the “falsework,” a temporary support structure, the Minnesota Department of Transportation reported.
The falsework will support forms for the St. Anthony Falls Bridge span. When the weather warms this spring concrete will be poured into the forms, creating the bridge’s superstructure.
MnDOT officials expected falsework construction to continue for several months. Work will be concentrated on the Downtown side of the Mississippi River for about the next two weeks.
Meanwhile, crews were pouring concrete for the bridge piers on either side of the river. Those piers will support 10 lanes of traffic on the new bridge deck.
