Mann still trails Jourdain in unofficial tally

There was no change in the top-four finishers in August’s citywide School Board primary after a recount of ballots Tuesday.

The recount was requested by fifth-place finisher Doug Mann, who trailed Ira Jourdain by 50 votes when ballots were first counted, narrowly missing a chance to move on to the general election. Both lost a handful of votes in the recount Tuesday, and the revised tally put Mann at 2,193 votes to Jourdain’s 2,242 votes, with Mann still behind by 49 votes.

Both finished far behind incumbent School Board Member Rebecca Gagnon (11,888 votes) and former alderman and 2013 mayoral candidate Don Samuels (10,562 votes). Political newcomer Iris Altamirano, who with Gagnon won one of the two DFL endorsements in the race, took the third-highest total (8,661 votes).

The recount results must be confirmed this afternoon in a 4:30 p.m. meeting of the Special School District No. 1 Canvassing Board.
