Augsburg College is proposing to purchase and install a new scoreboard for Parade Stadium.
Augsburg head baseball coach Keith Bateman presented the plan to replace the old green scoreboard with an updated, electronic maroon and gray one to the Park Board on March 5. Commissioners were receptive to the proposal and Augsburg will return in the upcoming weeks with a donation agreement for final approval by the Park Board.
“I’m thrilled to see that someone who is using the field is willing to help improve it for the use of all people who use it,” said District 5 Commissioner Steffanie Musich.
The scoreboard will have an interchangeable panel measuring 24 feet long and two feet high at the bottom. On one side the panel will read “Home of the Auggies” for Augsburg home games, and on the other side it will read “Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board,” which will be displayed for all other events.
“This is another step in what we view is a partnership with Parade Stadium,” said Bateman. Augsburg has played its home baseball games at Parade since 1956.
District 3 Commissioner Scott Vreeland noted that the parking lot at Parade is in dire need of repair and that may be the next improvement scheduled for the scenic ballpark on the edge of downtown.
