Commons grand opening planned for July 21

The City of Minneapolis is hosting a grand opening celebration for The Commons on Thursday, July 21.

The new 4.2-acre park near the U.S. Bank Stadium is providing much needed green space on the east side of downtown.

The celebration will be held on the park’s east block, 424 4th St. S., from 11:30 a.m.–1 p.m. It will feature free yoga, dance performances, a commemorative Frisbee toss, and remarks from leaders from the city, Ryan Cos. and Hargreaves Associates, the park’s designer.

Here’s the schedule:

— 11:30 a.m.: Asian Dance Team performance and food trucks
— Noon: Remarks from Mayor Betsy Hodges, City Council Member Jacob Frey (Ward 3), Ryan Cos. CEO Pat Ryan and Mary Margaret Jones, senior principal of Hargreaves Associates
— 12:20 p.m.: Commemorative Frisbee toss
— 12:20–1 p.m.: Asian Dance Team, food trucks, free CorePower Yoga class and other free play activities
