Minneapolis Public Schools (MPS) and the Minneapolis Federation of Teachers (MFT) are ramping up efforts to help two families impacted by the tragic fire in North Minneapolis that killed five children on Friday.

The father Troy Lewis and two children escaped the fire. The children are in critical condition at HCMC.

Fundraising efforts will help the Lewis family that had students at  Bethune Community School and the Garrett family, which lived on the first floor of the duplex impacted by the fire. The family has children who attend Loring Community School and Pierre Bottineau French Immersion School.

MPS and MFT will accept checks, gift cards and secure PayPal donations made through the MFT website http://www.mft59.org/ for the families.

Donations of clothing, household items and toiletries are also being collected. Items can be brought directly to the MFT, 67 8th Ave. in Northeast or delivered to the information desk at the MPS Davis Center, located at 1250 West Broadway Avenue.
