Mayor R.T. Rybak is planning a special "Unaugural" celebration at First Avenue on Dec. 18 with headliner Dave Simonett of Trampled by Turtles.

The party has the tagline: "What are they going to do? Impeach me?"

Tickets for the bash are $7 and go on sale noon on Friday, Nov. 29. All of the proceeds will benefit the STEP-UP program — an initiative Rybak often cites as the project he is most proud of during his time as mayor. Since launching 11 years ago, the program has matched more than 5,000 young people with internships with Twin Cities employers.

DJ Shannon Blowtorch is another performer lined up for the event, and more bands are expected to be announced as well.

Rybak's 12-year tenure as mayor officially comes to an end on Jan. 2 when Mayor-elect Betsy Hodges is sworn in at City Hall.

>>> As Rybak approaches his final weeks as mayor, we've been reflecting on his work with a special series, "The End of the Rybak Era." We also want to hear from you — our valued readers.

What do you think Rybak’s legacy will be? What do you think his greatest accomplishments have been, and what important issues remain to be resolved by his successor?
