Opus moving ahead with North Loop apartment project

Opus Development Corp. announced today it plans to move ahead with its 101-unit apartment project called Velo (which is French for bicycle).

NORTH LOOP — Opus Development Corp. announced today it plans to move ahead with its 101-unit apartment project called Velo (which is French for bicycle).

The developer plans to break ground on the project at 103 N. 2nd St. in the spring and wrap up construction by spring 2014, according to a news release. The apartment development will go up across the street from the 222 Hennepin development — an apartment building under construction that will have a new Whole Foods market at street level.

Velo will also have 12,000 square feet of retail space at street level. Amenities planned for the building include an outdoor plaza, yoga studio, outdoor fire pits and grill kitchen, fitness centers and rooftop terrace with resident garden projects.

Opus is also moving ahead with a 26-story apartment tower The Nic on Fifth planned for 5th & Nicollet.
