Minneapolis Public Schools (MPS), the Minneapolis Federation of Teachers (MFT) and Council Member Blong Yang (Ward 5) announced a fundraising and donation effort today to help the family impacted by the tragic house fire in North Minneapolis that claimed the lives of five children on Friday.

The father Troy Lewis and two children escaped the fire. The children are in critical condition at HCMC.

“This horrific incident is a tremendous loss for our entire community and I encourage all who can to provide support to the family,” said Michael Goar, chief executive officer for MPS, in a statement. “Especially in times of tragedy, our community must unite to support those who are suffering. I appreciate the leadership of MFT President Lynn Nordren for initiating this effort. I also commend Councilmember Blong Yang for his work to garner support.”

Checks made payable to the MFT and donations of clothing, household items and toiletries can be dropped off at MFT, 67 8th Ave. in Northeast, or at the information desk at the MPS Davis Center, 1250 West Broadway Ave.
