Mayor-elect Betsy Hodges has named John Stiles as her chief of staff.
Stiles, who currently serves as Mayor R.T. Rybak's communications director, will take on the new post when Hodges' term begins Jan. 2.
He has also worked as campaign manager for St. Paul Mayor Chris Coleman, communications director for the Minnesota DFL Party and as a principal aide to Ramsey County Commissioner Toni Carter.
“John Stiles has the experience in the mayor’s office, the determination to build a strong team that gets results for people, and the heart for Minneapolis to do an outstanding job as chief of staff and help move our city forward,” Hodges said in a statement.
Stiles said he's excited to join Hodges' team and help her tackle the city's "biggest challenge: ending racial disparities in jobs, health and education."
"When Minneapolis comes together and solves that challenge, there will be no limit to our greatness," he said.
Hodges named a 27-member Transition Advisory Committee last week — a group that will help provide guidance for her first term.
