Betsy Hodges will be sworn in as the city's 47th mayor Thursday at the Thorpe Building in Northeast as part of a "Kids' Inaugural" reflecting her commitment to focus on the city's youth.
The inaugural festivities start at 11 a.m. and will kick off a 10-day "One Minneapolis" tour featuring different themes each day. The celebration at the Thorpe Building, 1620 Central Ave. NE, will have mural painting, healthy snacks and exercise activities planned for children.
Outgoing Mayor R.T. Rybak, current and incoming City Council Members, St. Paul Mayor Chris Coleman and Congressman Keith Ellison are also planning to be in attendance. The city's charter requires the mayor to be sworn in on the first business day in January.
Hodges will deliver an inauguration address Monday, Jan. 6 at 9 a.m. in City Hall's Rotunda. The new members of the City Council will also be sworn in on Monday before convening for their first meeting of the year.
