The Sheridan Room opens in former Modern Cafe space

Updated: December 8, 2015 - 3:27 pm

The Sheridan Room recently opened in the former Modern Cafe space.

Owners of the nearby 331 Club and father-son team Jon and Jarret Oulman are behind the new concept. Before The Sheridan Room, Jim and Patty Grell’s Modern Cafe was a favorite among Northeast Minneapolis residents at 337 13th Ave. NE for more than 20 years.

The Sheridan Room, self-described as a “neighborhood restaurant featuring premium Midwestern fare,” serves breakfast, lunch, dinner and a full bar menu. The restaurant opened with dinner service in early December.

Along with Sheridan Room partner Joshua Mandelman, the three also own Amsterdam Bar and Hall and Como Dockside in St. Paul.

Modern Cafe closed earlier this year. The Grells opened the restaurant in 1994.

The Sheridan Room is open Tuesday through Thursday and Sunday from 8 a.m.-10 p.m., and Friday and Saturday from 8 a.m.-12 a.m. The restaurant is closed on Mondays.

The Sheridan Room’s menu is available online at
