Saks Off 5th in downtown Minneapolis will close Jan. 17.
The closure of the fashion outlet store at 655 Nicollet Mall will affect approximately 45 associates, said Tiffany Bourre, director of external communications for Hudson’s Bay Company, which owns Saks. Bourre said in an email that the store’s associates will have an opportunity to transfer locations when possible.
However, she said the company is looking for additional locations in the Minneapolis market, including downtown. She did not comment on rumors that Saks is interested in opening an outlet in the former Office Depot space in the City Center building at 7th and Nicollet.
The store is offering substantial discounts on merchandise and Bourree said there may be additional discounts as the closure draws closer.
Shoppers can also venture out to the Saks location in Eagan’s newly built Twin Cities Premium Outlets at 3885 Eagan Outlets Pkwy. The outlet’s website, saksoff5th.com, will continue to be available for Minneapolis shoppers.
