Two new stores are opening side-by-side in the former Dunn Bros space at 3rd & Washington avenues late spring.

Filson, an outdoor goods shop based in Seattle, and Shinola, Detroit makers of watches, bicycles, and other goods, will be opening at 228 N. Washington Ave. The stores are the first national brands to move into the neighborhood.

“Filson and Minnesota share an everlasting enthusiasm for enjoying the outdoors which makes it the perfect location as we look to connect with more outdoor enthusiasts,” said Filson CEO Alan Kirk.

Although other stores in the area carry products from both retailers, the stores are the first brick-and-mortar locations in Minnesota. The North Loop location will be Filson’s sixth store and the third for Shinola.

The stores fit in among the other locally owned stores and American-made products sold in the North Loop, like Bastian+Skoog Urban Flower Studio and Stephen Vincent Design.

“Shinola is very proud to be joining the community we've found in Minneapolis," Shinola CEO Steve Bock said. "Shinola is built on the premise of American craftsmanship and quality. We love the idea of being in Minneapolis and believe that this passion of ours will ensure we are very much at home here.”

Filson and Shinola are brands owned by Texas-based Bedrock Manufacturing.
