Locally grown salad stand returns to ballpark

NORTH LOOP — Local youth organization Roots for the Home Team is back at Target Field for a second season of selling fresh salads at Minnesota Twins home games.

Roots for the Home Team gives kids the opportunity to work together to develop salad recipes using their own freshly grown and harvested ingredients and then sell the salads at their Garden Goodies vendor stand at Twins games.

It started last year as a partnership between three different youth community garden programs, Emerge Homegrown Gardens, Urban Roots and Youth Farm. Each organization aims to get kids and teens involved in growing and harvesting their own produce.

Roots for the Home Team sells six different types of salads at the games for around $8 each. Salads are sold from t heir ballpark stand at weekend home games, and during several games so far this summer where salads have sold out.

Roots for the Home Team will be selling their salads at upcoming Twins games on Aug. 3, 4, 17, 18 and Sept. 7, 8, 14, 15, 28 and 29.
