The Confederation of Somali Community (CSCM) in Minnesota has established a disaster relief fund for the victims of the Cedar-Riverside explosion.

“We offer our prayers and support to the injured residents and community members and to their families,” said CSCM executive director Mohamud Noor. “This is a horrible tragedy. We stand together to help families both in the immediate aftermath and in the days, weeks and months to come.”

Earlier this afternoon, Minneapolis Fire Department officials discovered a body in the building at 516 Cedar Ave. S. rocked by the explosion around 8:16 a.m. on Jan. 1. The identity of the deceased individual has not be released.

A gas leak is being examined as a potential cause of the fire, but it could take weeks to determine a final cause, according to a news release from the Fire Department. At least 14 people were taken to the hospital following the explosion.
