Fifty kids will receive new bicycles and helmets from the Pohlad Family Foundation and the Minnesota Twins on Monday, July 7 behind the Community Center at North Commons Park from 5 to 7 p.m.

The donation coincides with the All-Star Game. The children will participate in the bike parade, led by the Minnesota Twins mascot T.C., following the bike distribution, adjustments and safety demonstrations.

Gina DiMaggio, Pohlad Family Foundation program officer, said in a statement Monday that the foundation “wishes to inspire the next generation of bike enthusiasts.”

“We hope these kids have fun and enjoy a healthy hobby on their new bikes,” DiMaggio said.

The foundation asked the Boys & Girls Club of the Twin Cities and the YMCA of the Greater Twin Cities to identify 50 deserving recipients between the ages of 6 to 10 to receive the bikes.

Two nonprofit biking education and advocacy organizations, Cycles for Change and Venture North, will help distribute and adjust the bikes Monday. The Minneapolis Police Department’s Bike Cops for Kids will lead safety demonstrations during the event, as well.
