Next up in Minneapolis’ brewery boom is a pizza brewpub called Day Block Brewing.

Day Block will probably open sometime in January in the former Spill the Wine location at 1101 Washington Ave. S.

“We are working on renovations fast and furiously but we still got a lot to do,” said Jeff Hahn, co-owner of Day Block.

Joe Williams, who previously worked at Punch Pizza, will run the kitchen and Paul Johnston, who previously worked at Lucid and Harriet Brewing, will serve as head brewer.

There will be six beers on tap and the offerings will rotate with the seasons. Hahn said initially there will be a red ale, a seasonal wit, a porter and a Cascade IPA brewed with hops from Hippity Hops Farms in Forest Lake.

Once they get up and running Hahn hopes to brew some experimental beers, like a recipe using black locust flowers.

The menu is still being finalized but it will include salad, soups and sandwiches in addition to pizza.

Hahn owns the Day Block building and Internet Exposure, a web design and marketing firm that is housed on the third floor.
