People Serving People, the state's largest family-focused homeless shelter at 614 S. 3rd St., is seeking donations for its tutoring program.

During the school year, 35 to 40 school buses pick up and later drop off youth at the shelter. An estimated 10 percent of Minneapolis students are homeless or highly mobile, according to a 2012 study.

The shelter is asking for community support for its tutoring program. It has the following needs: tutors, calculators, iPads, wall maps, label maker, educational bingo games, fraction dice, manual pencil sharpener, bean bag chairs, organizing tools and membership for Reading A-Z in May.

To donate, contact Takara Heneger at takarah@peopleservingpeople.org or call 277-0258.
