Wilde Roast co-owners Dean Schlaak and Tom DeGree have teamed up with their longtime friend Brian Gilligan to create a new restaurant concept called Mattie's on Main, located in the vacant space next door to Wilde Roast in the Riverplace mall.

The restaurant's official name is Mattie St. Clair's House of Spirits on Main Street, named after a well-known brothel owner that operated in the area in the late 1800s. Renovation of the former Kikugawa sushi restaurant began Dec. 19, and the owners hope to open sometime this spring.

Mattie's on Main will have 16 local beers on tap, a full bar, and it will offer upscale pub food along with desserts from Wilde Roast Cafe Pastry Chef Jeff Christianson. There will also be a space for live music, although it will not be replicating Wilde Roast's popular sidewalk cafe.
