Bloom and Buttercup, a flower, candy and gift shop, opened Dec. 21 at 1842 Central Ave. NE.
“Opening day was pretty wild with a lot of people in here. The Mill Northeast across the street and Maya Cuisine next door bring a lot of people in,” said Jessica Paine, who owns Bloom and Buttercup with her husband John.
The couple lives in Northeast and John works as a bartender at the 331 Club. Jessica recently received a graduate degree from the University of Minnesota in Landscape Architecture and previously worked at Bachman’s and Dundee Nursery.
Minnesota-made candy, soaps and candles along with I ♥ NE glassware are prominently featured in the shop, along with nostalgic candy and flowers.
“Once I moved to Northeast I haven’t wanted to leave…there’s a huge revitalization happening [on Central Avenue NE] right now and we really wanted to be part of that,” said Jessica.
The former Indian clothing boutique was renovated by the couple during the fall. They removed the space’s old drop ceiling to reveal its original ornate ceiling tile, which they restored.
