An old-fashioned, all-American diner will be coming soon to Loring Park.

The Nicollet Diner will be open “sometime in April, May 1 at the latest,” according to co-owner Sam Turner. Demolition in the building at 1428 Nicollet Ave. will begin this week, and after getting the architectural plans approved by the city construction is expected to take two to five weeks.

Turner said that he hopes to keep the diner open 24 hours a day on weekends, and possibly expand the diner's operations to 24/7 if there is enough demand.

“I think it's going to be a good neighborhood staple that has been missing for a long time,” said Turner, who hopes to draw residents from the neighborhood and visitors from the plethora of hotels in the area.

The menu, which is already up at thenicolletdiner.com, features standard American fare: omelettes, skillets, waffles and pancakes for breakfast, and burgers, meatloaf and traditional pasta dishes for lunch and dinner.
