The business landscape around 13th Avenue NE continues to be in flux, as Movables, the “posh home consignments” store, at 1228 2nd Ave. NE, will move to Highland Park in St. Paul and reopen August 1.

Kendra Anderson, who opened Movable in Northeast four and a half years ago, said she wanted to house her business closer to home.

“I wasn’t looking for a new spot, but got wind of a Highland Park spot, where I live,” she said.

Anderson said she contemplated staying in Northeast and opening a second location in the space she had found, but ultimately, said it wouldn’t have been worth the stress.

Over the past year, 13th Avenue NE businesses such as Spinario, Shuga Records and Fried Bologna have closed or relocated, while Dangerous Man Brewing Co. has moved in.

Anderson said that while Dangerous Man had helped bring some business her way, the overall lack of retail traffic in the area contributed to her decision to move.

According to Anderson, Chowgirls, which shares the same building in which Movable is currently housed, will be taking over the space.

From July 16-21, Movable will be having a moving sale, with additional discounts on already discounted items.

The store will move during the last weekend of this month; a grand opening party is planned for August one at the new location, 1338 Randolph Avenue in St. Paul.
