Major League Baseball (MLB) is hosting an 5,000-person, invite-only VIP gala at the Mill City Museum and Mill Ruins Park following the Home Run Derby July 14.

The gala will close West River Road down to one lane on July 13 and shut it down completely July 14. Staging and set up for the event begins July 11.

Jeff Consoletti with Chad Hudson Events, the event planning company in charge of the gala, told Mill District residents at their neighborhood association meeting yesterday that the Mill City Farmer’s Market will not be affected and set-up will pause to accommodate performances at the Guthrie Theater.

Aloe Blacc will play an hour-long concert beginning at 10:45 p.m., and a 10-minute pyrotechnic/water show will be held on the Stone Arch Bridge at 11:45 p.m. Aloe Blacc’s stage will be in the courtyard of the Mill City Museum, and the music will project out toward the river. The gala runs from 9 p.m. until 1 a.m.

After neighborhood residents made several humorous, half-serious attempts at scoring tickets to the gala, a representative from the Twins offered to host a Mill District Day at a future game with free tickets for inconvenienced residents.
