Ling and Louie’s will become one of the city’s largest restaurants when it opens Sept. 2 on Nicollet Mall in between 9th and 10th Street.
In all, when the nearly 15,000 square foot space is fully open it will have room for 450 people spread across three levels of indoor dining (main dining room, mezzanine seating and a private event space in the basement), a rooftop patio and sidewalk seating.
“The second we heard this location was available we snapped it up. An opportunity this big in the middle of a vibrant, unique urban setting rarely presents itself,” said co-owner Jason Merritt, who also owns Kona Grill and Rojo Mexican Grill with his longtime business partner Michael McDermott.
Unfortunately, the rooftop patio will not open until next spring, but everything else will be fully operational beginning Tuesday.
The Asian fusion chain has other locations in Arizona, Alaska, Idaho and Texas, but none are nearly as big as the new Nicollet Mall location, which is the first in Minnesota. The Nicollet Mall location is also the first Ling and Louie’s featuring a revamped layout Merritt and McDermott have been working on since buying the concept several years ago.
“We thought the food was phenomenal, but we felt the layout could be tweaked,” said Merritt.
The menu features limited sushi selection, a number of wok-fried Asian fusion staples and American favorites like meatloaf, burgers and pork ribs given an Asian twist. Entrees fall in the $12-20 range.
Ling and Louie’s hours are 11 a.m. – midnight Monday – Saturday and 11 a.m. – 10 p.m. on Sunday. During happy hour (3-6 p.m. and 10-close every day) sushi and select appetizers are half off, glasses of house wine are $5, and all draft beer and wines on tap are $1 off.
