U.S. Rep. Keith Ellison has called on the Department of Justice to fully investigate the evidence against a man living in Northeast who has been revealed to be a former Nazi commander to determine whether he’s eligible for deportation.
The Associated Press has reported that Michael Karkoc, 94, was a top commander of a Nazi SS-led unit accused of atrocities during World War II and lied to American authorities to get into the country. He has been living in Minnesota for more than 60 years.
“The revelation that a Nazi war criminal has been living in our communities for decades sent chills through my spine, as I’m sure it did to the Minnesotans who woke up to this news,” Ellison said in a statement released earlier today. “It is beyond alarming that someone who is accused of slaughtering women and children during World War II could be living in our home state.”
