Popular deep-dish pizzeria Di Noko's will close its south Minneapolis location on Nov. 10 and open up a new, larger location downtown on Nov. 22.

The new location will be a combination casual dining/sports bar called Di Noko's Bar Zia. It will be located in the first floor of the Jerry Haaf Memorial Parking Ramp at 420 Fourth St. S., formerly home to Tickles, a piano/sports/gay bar.

Di Noko's Bar Zia will be jointly owned by Di Noko's owner Rich Moore and Travis Phillips, a veteran of the Twin Cities bar industry and former manager of Tickles. Moore will run the kitchen and the dining room and Phillips will run the bar, which will feature a wide selection of craft beers and many TVs.

Currently Di Noko's only offers its critically-acclaimed deep-dish pizzas and wings for delivery or takeout, and Moore said it was time to expand.

"The deep-dish I'm known for is not a very good pick-up or delivery item, it's more of a dine-in experience, and I've kind of grown out of this little spot I'm in," said Moore.

Moore said he will initially start with a similar menu of pizza and wings at the new location and expand it to include chicken sandwiches, burgers and salads as he gets going. After having success replicating Chicago-style deep-dish, Moore is thinking about developing another regional American favorite, like hot chicken or Philly cheesesteak to add to his menu.

"I want to stay away from the normal bar, Applebees-type food," said Moore. "It'd be nice to be a destination where people go to get stuff they normally can't get around here."

Moore said the delivery area will extend to include his loyal south Minneapolis customers, as well as up to Broadway Street in Northeast.
