Downtown neighborhood groups are circulating a survey to collect thoughts on a downtown neighborhood elementary school.

People have until Oct. 15 to complete the survey

The idea for a new downtown school comes as the city's core is seeing a growth in the number of children. According to the 2010 U.S. Census, there were 1,358 children 9 years old and under living in the downtown area. That number continues to grow as downtown's population swells.

Many families often leave downtown when their children reach school age, prompting community leaders to look into the possibility of securing a new school.
