A community celebration to honor the life of Northeaster and NorthNews publisher Kerry Ashmore will be held at the Heights Theater, 3951 Central Ave. NE, on Feb. 25, 3–6 p.m.

Ashmore died Jan. 27 of cancer. He was 59 years old. A memorial fund has been set up in his honor by the Minnesota News Media Institute — the nonprofit arm of the Minnesota Newspaper Association.

"With Kerry’s legacy of community-sensitive in-depth reporting, plus his interest in mentoring young people and getting them started in newspaper careers, this the perfect fit," said Publisher Margo Ashmore, in a statement about the fund, which will serve North and Northeast Minneapolis-area communities.

Checks should be made to MNI, reference "Kerry Ashmore Memorial." Mail to Minnesota Newspaper Association, 12 South Sixth Street, Suite 1120, Minneapolis, MN 55402. There is also an online option, linked here: mna.wufoo.com/forms/the-kerry-ashmore-memorial-fund/
