CenterPoint Energy has closed on a deal to buy the site of a former Neiman Marcus store at 505 Nicollet Mall and hopes to move more than 300 employees there by spring 2015.

Meet Minneapolis will lease 5,000 square feet on the ground floor of the building for a new visitor information center, according to CenterPoint spokesperson Becca Virden. Previously city staff insisted CenterPoint follow zoning regulations that required a larger retail presence on the mall, but the two parties came to an agreement when the city issued a variance to allow less street level retail last October.

Renovation has already started inside the 100,000-square-foot building and soon CenterPoint will begin an upgrade to its façade.

“We want to open it up, brighten it up, so we’re putting back a whole bunch of windows that were closed off in the past and adding a bunch more,” said Virden, who added that the building will be LEED Silver-certified when renovation is completed.
