AUDUBON PARK — The Hollywood Theater at 2815 Johnson St. is planning an open house June 1, 1-5 p.m. There will be a free screening of the short film, “Golden Hour,” at 2:30 p.m.; cast and crew will be present.

The open house will coincide with “Johnstock,” the Johnson Street arts and music event that is presented each year by the Johnson Street Merchants Association.

The Hollywood Theater opened in 1935 and closed in 1987. In 1990 the theater was designated a local historic landmark, and three years later, it was bought by the city of Minneapolis.

Since 1993 the city has attempted unsuccessfully to redevelop the theater; in December of last year, the city granted one-year exclusive development rights to developer Andrew Volna, owner of Apiary Workspaces.
