Six more Minneapolis Police officers will become members of the Department's mounted patrol unit after completing training this spring.
The patrols will primarily work the Downtown beat but will be used in other parts of the city as well.
Currently, the 1st Precinct unit has one full-time sergeant, two full-time riders and 12 part-time riders. Seven horses are used for the detail. Typically, the mounted patrol is used for crowd control Downtown during events, parades and bar closings.
