A proposal for Minneapolis to form a sister-city alliance with Bosaso, Somalia is nearing final approval.
When signed off on by the full Council on Oct. 17, Minneapolis will be the first city in the country to have a sister city in Somalia.
City Council Member Abdi Warsame (Ward 6) fought back tears as he spoke about the sister-city partnership at the Council's Intergovernmental Relations Committee meeting earlier this afternoon. "It is very emotional for me to think about," he said. "Somalis have suffered a great deal. ... We grew up in a very tough time."
