New Council, new dynamics, new agenda


With five new members, will the City Council be more ‘assertive,’ ‘collaborative’ and ‘green’?

The Minneapolis City Council has a new cast of characters with five new faces joining eight incumbents at City Hall.

The Council also has new leadership with the North Side’s Barb Johnson (4th Ward) succeeding Northeast’s Paul Ostrow (1st Ward) as president, a post some consider the most powerful in City Hall.

Johnson, whose mother, Alice Rainville, served as Council president in the 1980s, is optimistic about the new slate.
