Former animal shelter may become housing site

The city's Planning Commission has approved a request by the Public Works Department to sell the city's former animal shelter in the North Loop.

At its July 26 meeting, the city's Planning Commission approved the proposal to sell the 506 11th Ave. N. property to the highest bidder.

The old animal control facility is near an elevated Interstate 94 freeway access ramp that connects to 2nd Avenue North.

According to the Public Works report, developers have called city officials about turning the site into housing.
