Universally acclaimed

The next film in the Walker Art Center’s Cinemateca film series is Carlos Reygadas’ “Silent Light.”

The Mexican film by the critically acclaimed director focuses on a Mennonite community near Chihuahua, Mexico, and explores the challenges community members have adhering to the tenets of their strict religion in the face of natural, human impulses and passions.

The film was honored with several awards at the Ariel Awards — Mexico’s equivalent of the Oscars — including Best Picture, Director, Supporting Actress, Cinematography and Original Screenplay.
