Check it out: Blessing of the Animals


It’s time to get Fido spiffed up for church.

The Blessing of the Animals at The Basilica of St. Mary is set for Oct. 4.

The event, held on the Sunday closest to the feast of Saint Francis (the patron saint of ecology), will start at 1 p.m. on The Basilica lawn. Then at 1:30 p.m., people and their animals will file into the church for a short service. A festival outside will follow the service.
