Coalition urging city leaders to invest $20 million in affordable housing

A group of community organizations has mobilized a campaign to lobby for $20 million for affordable housing in the city’s 2015 budget.

The funding would include $15 million for the city’s Affordable Housing Trust Fund, $3 million for senior housing and $2 million for home ownership programs, said Heidi Johnson McAllister of the Downtown Congregations to End Homelessness.

The city’s residential building boom has created a new supply of luxury rentals, but affordable places to live are increasingly hard to come by in Minneapolis.
