Minneapolis violent crime at lowest rate in 25 years

The Minneapolis violent crime rate dropped 5 percent from 2009 to 2010 and, overall, crime is down 19 percent since 2006.

Those numbers are according to the Minneapolis Police Department’s 2010 crime statistics, which were presented to the City Council’s Public Safety, Civil Rights and Health Committee on Feb. 2.

The 1,600 robberies in 2010 were the least since 1983. Violent crime was at its lowest level since 2001.
