Vigil for Matthew Shepard tonight in Loring Park

Judy Shepard among the scheduled speakers

The mother of a gay college student murdered in Laramie, Wyo., 10 years ago will speak at a candlelight vigil that begins at 6:30 p.m. tonight in Loring Park.

The death of Matthew Shepard, 21, who was found beaten and tied to a rural fencepost in October 1998, drew national attention to hate crimes against gays. His mother, Judy Shepard, is one of several people scheduled to speak at the vigil, which is free and open to the public.
