Minneapolis Public Schools teacher Braulio Carrasco was named 2014 Minnesota Latino Educator of the Year in October.
Carrasco, a third-grade math specialist at Emerson Spanish Immersion Learning Center, said he’d use the opportunity to honor the Latino educators who went before him and inspire his students. Now 30, Carrasco was born in the Dominican Republic, moved to the U.S. at age 16 and the next year became the first in his family to attend college.
“It’s just the immigrant story,” he said. “You move to find a better opportunity.”
