New steel and timber office tower planned for North Loop

Development giant Hines is planning a new seven-story office building in North Loop that will use new building techniques to replicate the neighborhood’s popular rustic look without sacrificing modern design efficiencies.

“Many of the old brick-and-timber buildings that are repurposed have problems you can’t do much to mitigate: there are difficulties with putting in modern heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems, creaky floors and weird acoustics, not enough natural light, inefficient layouts and so on,” said Steve Luthman, director of Hines’ Chicago office.
